Airpuck and Hovercraft

It is not only an aero class, but also a mechanical experience. We run STAR-CCM+ design sweep to size the airpuck shell; generate G-code with CATIA and CNC routered a wax mold. For some structure part, we even manually run something like “topology optimization”. Design thinking are also taught: “keep it simple, stupid”, “if it works, don’t fix it”. I hope SJTU can develop such a class in the future.

This is my first term in Ann Arbor. I experienced terrible culture shock and was at a loss. Thank you Prof. Washabaugh for always encouraging me.
